Es así, que los distintos tipos de sistemas son gracias a una evolución orgánica de la propia demanda del mercado. Diferencias entre videoporteros

1. Las características de la tecnología IP son mucho más potentes y permite realizar opciones más avanzadas que las de un videoportero convencional.
2. Los videoporteros IP están acordes con las tecnologías de comunicación actuales. Por eso, son la evolución de los digitales.
3. El sistema IP permite conectar con servicios de domótica. El videoportero digital principalmente cumple la función de abrepuertas y comunicación con el exterior, aunque pueden tener integrado un sistema de control de accesos.
4. La tecnología IP mejora la calidad de imagen y de voz de los videoporteros.
5. Los sistemas digitales necesitan un cableado específico, en cambio, los videoporteros IP usan un cableado estructurado compatible con otros sistemas de comunicación. Esto es gracias a una instalación a través del cableado de Ethernet o fibra óptica.
6. Una de las diferencias más características es que puedes llegar a comunicarte desde cualquier parte del mundo si tienes conexión a internet a través gracias al sistema TCP/IP.
7. Los terminales del sistema IP, como los monitores, te permiten realizar funciones inteligentes como desvío de llamada a dispositivos móviles, comunicación entre vecinos, enviar mensajes y activación remota de dispositivos. Con un sistema digital esto no es posible.
8. El sistema IP permite que se pueda trabajar sin la necesidad de un servidor central, es decir, cada dispositivo cuenta con su propia autonomía conectada a una red común.

Este mecanismo de conexión inalámbrico entre dispositivos electrónicos se diferencia sobre el IP en que el segundo no es inalámbrico y va por cableado.
